DUBAI – Dubai will soon get the world’s tallest wellbeing resort as part of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, announced on Tuesday.
Set to be built at a height of 100 metres, the ‘Therme Dubai’ will be located at Zabeel Park and will open in 2028.
The city will be allocating Dh2 billion towards the development of the new landmark that will feature an interactive park and the world’s largest indoor botanical garden, designed to host 1.7 million visitors annually.
Spanning over an area of 500,000 square feet, the resort will have three areas which will focus on ‘restoring, relaxing and playing’.
“This innovative project reflects our commitment to enhancing urban biodiversity and environmental sustainability, and creating enriching experiences for Dubai’s residents and visitors,” said the Crown Prince.
The Dubai Municipality revealed recently that as many as 216,500 trees were planted across Dubai in 2024 — a 17 per cent rise from 2023. This translated to an average of 600 trees being planted every day last year.
The announcement came on National Environment Day. Earlier, UAE President Mohamed pledged the country’s support for international climate action efforts and promoting collective responsibility towards shared global challenges.
Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed also took to social media to highlight the country’s “sustainability and environmental conservation”.
What is Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033?
In May 2024, Dubai launched the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, in order to enhance community wellbeing. The strategy aims to establish the emirate as the world’s best place to reside in.
The project aims at turning Dubai into a pedestrian-, environment- and family-friendly city, ensuring residents can access services in 20 minutes. It also includes comprehensive plans for developing Dubai’s outlying areas.
The initiative will also see the development of public amenities like parks and beaches. Over 200 parks will be developed under the project, in addition to extension of cycling tracks on beaches by 300 per cent, and extension of length of night swimming beaches by 60 per cent. A new beach will also be designated exclusively for women.
