Moscow and London have emerged as the most popular European destinations for UAE residents during this festive season, despite higher airfare costs.
Many UAE residents are taking advantage of long weekends in December, beginning with UAE National Day earlier in the month. Some are extending the New Year holiday into a short vacation to maximize their travel plans.
Why Europe Is the Top Choice
Strong airline connectivity between the UAE and Europe, coupled with simplified visa processes, has made European cities a preferred choice for UAE travelers.
Moscow has topped the list of searches, according to data from online travel marketplace Wego. The city is particularly appealing during this season with its vibrant festivals, brightly decorated streets, and popular events like Journey to Christmas, which features shows, concerts, and workshops. Tourists can also enjoy festive Christmas markets at Red Square, offering gifts and souvenirs.
London remains a perennial favorite among UAE residents, offering Christmas markets, ice skating, theater shows, and musical concerts. The city’s charm and festive atmosphere continue to draw visitors year after year.
Other Popular Destinations
Baku ranked third, attracting visitors with its festive stalls, crafts, fireworks displays, and live music. Many restaurants and hotels in the city host special gala dinners.
Tbilisi, Georgia, is also a sought-after destination for its winter charm and festive celebrations.
Prague ranks fifth, captivating visitors with its Christmas markets at Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, gothic architecture, and traditional Czech cuisine. Popular activities include ice skating at Letná Park, river cruises on the Vltava, and New Year’s Eve fireworks from Petrin Hill or Charles Bridge.
Additional European Favorites
Vienna, Paris, Yerevan, Milan, Sarajevo, and Munich also feature prominently on the travel lists of UAE residents this season.
Earlier, dnata Travel listed Thailand, the Maldives, the UK, Sri Lanka, and Turkey as top choices for UAE residents during the UAE National Day long weekend.
