His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has congratulated Jordanian chemist and professor Omar Yaghi on receiving the prestigious ‘Great Arab Minds’ Award in the Natural Sciences category for 2024.

Professor Yaghi, a distinguished faculty member at the University of California, Berkeley, is celebrated for his pioneering work in reticular chemistry. His groundbreaking innovations have led to transformative applications addressing global challenges in energy, water, and environmental sustainability.

About the Great Arab Minds Initiative
The Great Arab Minds initiative celebrates outstanding achievements by Arab individuals whose work drives progress and enriches global knowledge. Often referred to as the ‘Arab Nobel Prize,’ the initiative aims to revive the region’s historical legacy of scientific inquiry and leadership.
Under Sheikh Mohammed’s patronage, the UAE recently launched the second edition of the initiative. Awards are presented in six categories: medicine, engineering and technology, economics, natural sciences, architecture and design, and literature and arts.
