Alia bint Khalid Al Qassimi Appointed Managing Director of UAE National Orchestra

The UAE National Orchestra has announced the appointment of Sheikha Alia bint Khalid Al Qassimi as its new Managing Director. With her extensive experience in advancing the UAE’s cultural and creative industries, Al Qassimi is set to guide the Orchestra’s strategic vision, fostering innovation and enhancing its role as a key cultural institution.

“I am honoured to take on the role of Managing Director of the UAE National Orchestra. This is a collective effort, and I look forward to working with a dedicated team to shape the future of music in the UAE,” Al Qassimi stated. She further emphasized, “This Orchestra is more than just music; it is a symbol of our commitment to celebrating cultural heritage and nurturing creative excellence. I am inspired by the opportunity to lead this initiative and aim to establish the UAE as a global hub for musical innovation and cultural exchange.”

In addition, Amine Kouider, the internationally acclaimed conductor with over 30 years of experience in bridging Eastern and Western musical traditions, has been appointed Artistic Director. Kouider has conducted major orchestras across France and the region, founded the International Philharmonic Orchestra – Paris, and received the prestigious title of Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters of France.

“Our mission is to honor the UAE’s cultural legacy while encouraging musical exploration and innovation,” Kouider shared. “We aim to create a platform for musicians to experiment with new sounds and styles, promote cross-cultural dialogue, and showcase the UAE’s musical heritage on the global stage.”

The Orchestra is now inviting talented individuals aged 18 and above to apply for full-time positions in both Arabic and Western ensembles. The Orchestra seeks to unite diverse voices that reflect the UAE’s rich cultural tapestry. Positions offer competitive compensation and an opportunity to contribute to a unique musical repertoire, including Western chamber music, Emirati compositions, and groundbreaking new works that blend cultures and musical traditions.

Interested instrumentalists and vocalists must submit high-quality video recordings showcasing their musical skills. These recordings will help the selection panel assess technical ability and artistic expression. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for in-person auditions in Abu Dhabi, where they will perform before a panel of expert judges. Selection will be based on merit, with a focus on exceptional musical proficiency.

Each category will have specific audition repertoire requirements, which can be found on the official website. Musicians wishing to apply should visit www.UAENationalOrchestra.ae to review the guidelines, complete the application form, and submit their video/audio recordings. The application deadline is January 26, 2025.
