Saudi Arabia Delays School Start Times Amid Severe Cold Snap

A severe cold wave sweeping across Saudi Arabia has led education authorities to delay the start of the school day in several regions to ensure student safety.

The Saudi National Centre for Meteorology has forecast that temperatures in some areas could drop to as low as 3 degrees Celsius below zero due to an intense cold air mass affecting the kingdom.

In Qurayyat, located in northern Saudi Arabia, authorities have postponed the start of classes to 9 a.m., with this adjustment in effect until Tuesday. Similarly, in Tabuk, located in the northwest, the school day in the city and its suburbs will begin at 9 a.m. starting Sunday and will continue for the entire week.

Meanwhile, in the Ha’il region, the morning parade has been suspended, and classes now start at 7:45 a.m. until further notice. Education authorities in the Northern Borders region have also delayed the school day to begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday and Monday.

In Al Jawf, another northern region, the morning parade is now scheduled for 8:15 a.m., with the first class starting 15 minutes later.

The measures come as northern parts of the kingdom brace for the harshest cold wave of the season. The adjustments aim to protect students amid the severe weather conditions, which follow the return of over 6 million students to schools in mid-November after the first semester break.
